Gustav Heurlin – Walkway lined with crosses, Lithuania, 1933.

this made me cold for a minute i think i know where it goes

uh oh

Oh hey, I think this is Kryziu Kalnas. It still exists today. Or rather, it exists again today; it’s been burned down multiple times but people always just brought more crosses. When I was there, most of the hill was like a tangled thicket of the things, crosses, crucifixes and rosaries of all sizes and materials, some with names or short prayers written, carved or painted on them. It’s kind of a monument to Lithuanian faith and persistence. It was a moving experience, walking down the path.
